Geology Professor elected GSA fellow

Associate Professor of Geology Tamie Jovanelly was elected as a Geological Society of America fellow this year for her exceptional work in the geoscience community. A brief citation about Jovanelly was published on their website and in the July issue of GSA Today. She is expected to maintain her membership and encouraged to continue to engage with the GSA community, help shape the society, and inspire the next generation of geoscientists.

Dr. Jovanelly's book, “Iceland: Tectonics, Volcanics, and Glacial Features”, was American Geophysical Union’s top-selling book of 2020 and 2021. Her book will be showcased in the Union’s upcoming meeting in December, which is the largest meeting of Earth and space scientists in the world.

“Most of the books in our prestigious Geophysical Monograph Series are edited volumes; they are the work of a group of editors and contain contributions from scores of authors. However, your book was a sole-authored volume. We recognize the achievement of producing a comprehensive scientific volume on your own,” said American Geophysical Union officials.
