Berry College has chosen West Virginia University Associate Dean Joyce T. Heames as the new Dean of the Campbell School of Business.
“I look forward to working with the Campbell faculty and staff, who have shown such commitment and love for Berry. We will continue to build on the solid platform already established,” Heames said. “It is hard to maintain incredible rich traditions and keep an innovative and forward focus. However, Berry does, and that is what drew me to accept this position. Outreach drawing upon alumni involvement and developing stronger corporate relations will be one of the cornerstones on which I will focus.”
Heames is now serving as Associate Dean for Innovation, Outreach, & Engagement for the College of Business at West Virginia, having previously served as chair of the department of management. She will begin her duties at Berry July 15.
“As associate dean, Dr. Heames has worked to create a strong set of opportunities for students in local and national businesses, has overseen a strong and growing set of business relationships with the local and regional community, and has excelled as a teacher and scholar,” said Berry College Interim Provost Andrew Bressette.
She also participated as a team member in their recent AACSB task force in preparation for reaffirmation. Heames has B.S. and MBA degrees from Samford University and a Ph.D. in management from the University of Mississippi.
Her teaching includes human resource fundamentals, staffing and selection, and corporate social responsibility at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Heames’ primary area of research is counterproductive work behavior, specifically workplace bullying. She also explores management history, retirement processes and organizational knowledge transference. Her work has been published in the Journal of World Business, Journal of Applied Social Psychology, Journal of Leadership & Organizational Studies, International Journal of Human Resource Management, Management Decision, and Journal of Business Ethics.
She started teaching at West Virginia in 2006. Prior to that, Heames taught at the University of Mississippi and Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. While at Samford, she was an instructor at the Samford Community Banking School and the director of Undergraduate Programs for the School of Business.
Bressette thanked the search committee for their work.
“I would like to thank Dr. John Grout for his many years of leadership as the Dean of the Campbell School and for his work that has led to a renewal of our AACSB accreditation,” he said. Grout will return to full-time faculty duties in July where his responsibilities will be teaching, research and the ongoing roll with Berry’s Creative Technologies program.
