Kindermusik of Berry College has been awarded a $1,300 grant from Kindermusik International, a $2,268 grant from the Rome Area Council for the Arts and a $1,000 grant from the Rome Floyd Children/Youth Commission.
Kindermusik of Berry College conducts weekly classes for preschool students at the South Rome Early Learning Center. The grants will help purchase home materials for the children such as music CDs, activity books and instruments.
“The music on the CD is what they experience in the classroom. Having this music at home reinforces their classroom learning,” Adjunct Instructor of Music Kathryn Nobles explained. “The childrens’ experiences with Kindermusik have improved their speech and early reading skills and their ability to recognize sounds and understand patterns in language.”
