Berry professor awarded her third Georgia Author of the Year Award

Berry College Professor Sandra Meek has been named the Georgia Author of the Year in Poetry for her book, "An Ecology of Elsewhere."

The Georgia Writers Association is the oldest literary award in the Southeastern United States and has grown in prestige and participation since its inception in 1964. The award honors independently published authors and those whose books are published by traditional publishing houses and covers the genres of poetry, fiction and creative non-fiction.

Meek has taught for 21 years at Berry and is a professor of English, Rhetoric, and Writing. She is the author of five books of poems, “An Ecology of Elsewhere”, “Road Scatter”, “Biogeography”, “Burn” and “Nomadic Foundations”, as well as a chapbook, “The Circumference of Arrival”. She is also the editor of "Deep Travel: Contemporary American Poets Abroad," which was awarded an Independent Publisher Book Award Gold Medal. Her poems have appeared in “The American Poetry Review”, “Conjunctions” and “The Iowa Review”, among others. She received her bachelor’s degree in English and master’s in creative writing from Colorado State University, and a doctorate in English and creative writing from the University of Denver.
