Berry College recently hosted the annual 6th Grade Berry College Mathematics Contest with 78 students competing.
Students from Rome and Catoosa County dominated this year’s competition which Berry hosts to promote and encourage mathematical excellence. Several Berry students and mathematics faculty worked the event. Associate Professor of Mathematics Education Martha Tapia is the faculty supervisor for the competition.
East Central Elementary School (Rome) took first place, North Heights Elementary (Rome) was second and Heritage Middle School (Catoosa) placed third . Individual winners were Brendan Strickland of East Central, first place; Emily Lin of Heritage Middle, second place and Theo Stott of North Heights, third place.
Participating schools included: Armuchee Middle School, Floyd County, Ga; Coosa Middle School, Floyd County, Ga; Dade Middle School, Dade County, Ga; East Central Elementary; Gilmer Middle School, Gilmer County, Ga; Heritage Middle; Jasper Middle School, Pickens County, Ga; North Heights Elementary; Saint Mary’s School, Rome Ga; and West End Elementary School, Rome, Ga.
