Outdoor concert at Berry College
Enjoy an afternoon of music beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, on the Ford grounds at Berry College.
Directed by Assistant Professor of Music Lauren Denney Wright and John David, artist-in-resident, the Berry Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble and the Viking Drumline will perform. This event is free and open to the public, and concert-goers are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs.
Berry Student Honors Recital
The annual Berry College Student Honors Recital will be at 5 p.m. (Tuesday) April 10 in the Ford Auditorium.
In conjunction with the Berry College Symposium on Student Scholarship and sponsored by Pi Kappa Lambda, select Berry College music students will perform solo works demonstrating their talents and courses of study.
The following is a list of students whose work will be in the performance: Leif Atchley (trumpet), Joseph Aucoin (cello), Karleigh Dills (guitar), Lyman Hinson (baritone), Kayla Low (flute), Caroline Moore (marimba), Camilla Packroff (soprano), Bella Robbins (piano), Allie Sinatra (French horn) and Carrie Sturniolo (soprano).
String Ensembles’ Spring Concert
The Berry College String Ensembles’ annual Spring Concert will be at 7:30 p.m. April 10 in the Ford Auditorium.
The concert will showcase of Berry’s string ensembles in a mixed chamber music setting and is free and open to the public.
The performance will feature both classic and contemporary compositions under the direction of Eric Hanson (artist affiliate, low strings), Wendy Case (artist affiliate, violin and viola), and Sean Thrower, artist affiliate, guitar.
Award-winning poet to speak at Berry
Jennifer Michael Hecht will read her award-winning poetry at 7 p.m. April 12 at the Berry College McAllister Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.
Her piece “The Next Ancient World” won the Tupelo Press Judge’s Prize in Poetry, the Poetry Society of America’s Norma Farber First Book Award and the Foreword Review’s Poetry Book of the Year Award. In addition, “Funny,” a philosophic, yet comic piece won the Felix Pollak Prize in Poetry. Hecht earned her Bachelor of Arts in history from Adelphi University and her Ph.D. in the history of science from Columbia University.
Berry College Theatre Company Presents “The Dining Room”
The Berry College Theatre Company will present “The Dining Room” written by A. R. Gurney April 12-15 and 19-22 at Sisters Theatre.
The show is set in a typical dining room setting as the place where the family gathers for breakfast, dinner and special occasions. The actors portray a variety of characters and when the scenes are taken together they create an in-depth portrait of a vanishing species: the upper-middle-class “WASP” (White Anglo-Saxon Protestant.) Critics describe the play as “a humorous yet sentimental show with an abundance of humanity.”

Musical Composition of ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’
The Rome Symphony Orchestra will pair with the Berry College Women’s Choir and Shorter (University) Singers to present Mendelssohn’s composition of music celebrating Shakespeare’s “Midsummer Night’s Dream” at 7:30 p.m. on April 14 at the Berry College Chapel.
The performance will be directed by Paul Neal, associate professor of music and director of choral activities and Stefanie Cash, assistant professor of music and director of music education.

Wind Ensemble’s Spring Concert
The Berry College Wind Ensemble annual Spring Concert will be at 7:30 p.m. April 19 in the Ford Auditorium.
The concert, directed by Assistant Professor of Music Lauren Denney Wright, will include artist-in-residence John David performing alongside the Wind Ensemble on John Mackey’s “Strange Humors.” Additional pieces will include works from composers Ryan George, Michael Markowski and Andrew Boysen Jr. The concert will feature a variety of works from different time periods.
The event is free and open to the public.
Berry Singers Broadway Showcase
The Berry Singers will perform their “Broadway Showcase” at 3 p.m. on April 22 in the Ford Auditorium.
Under the direction of Associate Professor of Music Paul Neal, the singers will perform Broadway works both old and new including “Seize the Day” from Newsies, “Agony” from Into the Woods and “Think of Me” from Phantom of the Opera.
The event is free and open to the public.
