Close to 500 degrees will be awarded to Berry College students on May 4 and 5.
The 2018 Berry College undergraduate commencement will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 5, on the Evans School south lawn.
For those who can’t attend, the ceremony will be livestreamed at Berry.edu/webcast/.
The featured speaker for commencement is President of Westminster College and former Berry Provost Kathy B. Richardson.
Richardson joined Berry faculty in 1986 and was named provost in 2013 after serving nine years as associate provost and a year as interim provost. She has won Berry’s most distinguished awards for teaching, service and scholarship, and was named an honorary alumna in 2014. Richardson became president of Westminster in New Wilmington, Penn., in 2016. She is the college’s 15th president and first female president.
She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication and religion/philosophy summa cum laude from Shorter College, a master’s degree in journalism and a doctorate in mass communication from the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. In 2014, she received the Distinguished Alumni Scholar Award from Grady College.
Senior Payton H. Stone, of Cartersville, Ga., is the student speaker. He will receive a B.A. degree in religion/philosophy and psychology.
The graduate commencement will be at 7 p.m. May 4, in the College Chapel.
Soon-to-be graduates Ellen Mooney and Morgan Weigle will speak. Mooney graduated from Berry in 1991 and will receive an Education Specialist degree. She is a fourth-grade teacher at Cloverleaf Elementary School in Cartersville. Weigle graduated from Berry in 2016 and will receive an MBA on May 4. Following graduation, she will intern with New York Stage and Film, and pursue a second master’s degree at New York University in performing arts administration.
