A Berry College student is one of two students in the nation to receive a prestigious editorial internship with international English honor society Sigma Tau Delta.
Rising senior Miranda Heyman, a creative writing major from Trumbull, Conn., will work with the managing editor on all facets of publishing the Sigma Tau Delta Rectangle (creative writing) and the Sigma Tau Delta Review (literary criticism) now through Jan. 2019. The journals publish annually the best writing and criticism of undergraduate and graduate active chapter members of the society. She will read the submissions and help choose the best works. Heyman will also work extensively on the layout and design for the creative writing journal.
"I'm delighted to receive this honor,” she said. “I hope to use my experience there to give people a place to express themselves and to promote creativity. I'd like to thank everyone who has helped me along the way especially Dr. (Jim) Watkins who has always been very encouraging.”
The Berry College Sigma Tau Delta Society is under the sponsorship of Associate Professor of English, Rhetoric and Writing Jim Watkins. Heyman is president-elect of Berry's chapter and also the rising editor-in-chief for Berry College Ramifications literary magazine.
Sigma Tau Delta is a national English Honor Society that strives for high achievement in the English language and literature in undergraduate professional studies, promotes exemplary character and good fellowship among its members and fosters all aspects of the discipline of English. The society is made up of 900 chapters with more than 9,000 members inducted annually.
