ROME, Ga. – A Berry College professor’s documentary film that depicts the battle between Rome’s river keepers and General Electric over polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), will be screened for the public at 6 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 21) at Georgia Highlands Heritage Hall Centre Stage.
“To Kingdom Come” was a 2018 Rome International Film Festival Audience Award winner for Featured Films. The film is a community project, co-produced by Berry College Associate Professor of Anthropology and Environmental Studies Brian Campbell and Coosa River Basin Initiative (CRBI), with contributions from Berry College students and alumni, Georgia Highlands faculty, Paper Panda Audio Productions, and an array of local musicians, including the Barbaric Yawps and Little Country Giants.
The film also dives into the underlying cultural encounter between the North and South through candid interviewing and historical media. As a result of the extensive ethnographic research that underlies the film, diverse perspectives and surprising cultural insights emerge. Current Berry students Maddie Bess, Justyn Patterson and Lexikay Stokes as well as Berry alumni Matt Bentley, Jared Burmbelow, Tia Carter, Ouzal Hinz and Joe Mann served as camera operators and collaborators on this film.
