ROME, Ga. -- Oak Hill & The Martha Berry Museum will host a free community day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 21.
The event will commemorate the last day of the holiday season with free admission and all-day access to the Oak Hill home. Visitors can enjoy musical performances in the Oak Hill parlor, festive decorations, historical Christmas trivia, and leave with a ‘Martha Berry approved’ souvenir. There will also be a sleigh in front of the house for selfies, as well as a photo booth. After touring the estate, guests can stop by the Oak Hill Gift Shop for last minute Christmas shopping.
The Oak Hill home, built in the 1880s, is the Greek Revival mansion of Martha Berry, founder of Berry College. Oak Hill was the childhood home of Berry and later became her adult residence, altered to her personal taste. Oak Hill was gifted by Berry to the schools and remains intact as she left it in the 1930s.
The museum has multiple galleries including the special exhibition “The Gift of Art: Selections.” Curated by art history major Remington Jackson and the student staff at Oak Hill, this exhibition showcases the rich history of the museum’s permanent collection. The estate also features the Original Cabin, award-winning gardens, the Walkway of Life and additional trails, and the Christopher Browning Pavilion.
