The national Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi has awarded a Berry College alumnus an $8,500 Fellowship.
Callie Whitesell, who graduated in May, is one of only 58 students across the nation awarded a fellowship by the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. This award is given to members entering the first year of graduate or professional study who show undergraduate academic achievement, service and leadership experience and strong graduate school and career goals. Whitesell was nominated by Berry’s Phi Kappa Phi chapter.
"Students like Callie truly are few and far between," said Berry Associate Professor of Psychology Casey Dexter. "She epitomizes the servant leadership that is the Berry College calling card. This, coupled with her formidable intellect and unwavering desire to help others, makes her so deserving of this recognition. I am so excited to see what the future holds for Callie."
Whitesell graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and is pursuing a master’s degree in public health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health. She is from Watkinsville, Ga.
Established in 1897, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi grants over $1 million each year to members and students on chapter campuses. The Fellowship Program annually provides funding to first-year graduate students who are pursuing post-baccalaureate degrees across all academic disciplines. (www.phikappaphi.org).
