Georgia Poetry Circuit: Victoria Chang

“OBIT,” longlisted for the 2020 National Book Award in Poetry, is Chang’s fifth book of poetry. Chang wrote OBIT as a book of poetic obituaries after the death of her mother. It reinvents the newspaper obituary to name both what has died and the impact of that death on the living. The American poet and children’s author has been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Sustainable Arts Foundation Fellowship, a Pushcart Prize, and many other awards and fellowships. Her picture book, “Is Mommy?” was named a New York Times Notable Book. She serves on the National Book Critics Circle Board and is the Program Chair of Antioch’s Low-Residency MFA Program.

Chang was selected to read at Berry by the Georgia Poetry Circuit, a coalition of 10 colleges and universities working to bring three nationally and internationally recognized poets to each campus every year. Berry has been a member institution of the Georgia Poetry Circuit since 1998. Berry Professor of English, Rhetoric and Writing Sandra Meek was director from 2007 to 2020.
