Berry College was recently included in The Princeton Review 2023 Guide to Green Colleges.
Berry was among other top green colleges who have reported school sustainability information. The Princeton Review has aimed to create the Guide to Green Colleges as a resource for college applicants who are seeking schools with strong commitments to the environment in their campus policies, programs, and practices.
“Over the years, we have also seen a significant growth in the number of colleges pivoting to sustainability-related policies and programs,” said Rob Franek, Editor in Chief of The Princeton Review. “We are proud to shine a light on these schools and to continue serving as a unique resource for students who want their ‘best-fit’ college to also ideally be a green one. We highly recommend each and every one of the colleges in our guide.”
Efforts at Berry include:
- Energy-efficient double paned windows installed on campus.
- Heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems retrofitted throughout the campus. Historic Normandy Barns utilize geothermal energy for climate control.
- Motion sensor lights, motion sensor thermostats, timers, and LED lighting fixtures installed in most of Berry’s campus. All residence halls are equipped with low-flow washers, shower heads, and faucets.
- About 90% of the paper products used by custodial services, including toilet paper and paper towels, are made of recycled materials. The Berry Dining Hall offers biodegradable to-go boxes. All of the organic debris on campus is converted into BioMass fuel or mulch.
- Berry College's IT department recycles 100% of campus electronics.
