ROME, Ga.- The Berry Singers will perform part one of Handel’s “Messiah”, displaying the Christmas story portion of the renowned choral piece, finishing with the Hallelujah chorus at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday (Dec. 3) in the Bell Recital Hall at Ford Auditorium.
“We are excited to bring back Handel’s Messiah to the Berry campus,” said Paul Neal, director of choral activities at Berry. “It has been many years since Handel’s “Messiah” was performed on our campus, and we are glad to return to the tradition of presenting this work for our community.”
The performance serves as an opportunity for the Berry community to learn about the premiere of this historical work. Because the Berry Singers performance will be smaller in size than traditional “Messiah” performances, the concert will allow for a more intimate experience and a more expressive performance. This results in the complex musical lines and melismatic phrases being spoken and heard with better clarity, Neal added.
“The students have learned about performance practice from the Baroque period and have worked hard to present the score with these ideals in mind,” said Neal.
The concert is free and open to the public.
