After a national search, Berry College has named Alan Hughes the Dean of the Charter School of Education and Human Sciences.
Hughes, who has served as interim Dean of the Charter School since 2020, joined Berry in 2007 as a faculty member in the Psychology Department. Before joining Berry, Hughes was associate professor of psychology at Nazareth College. He has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Berea College, a master’s degree from Western Kentucky University, and Ph.D. in experimental psychology from the University of Louisville.
“Dr. Hughes has a robust vision for the Charter School’s future related to applied learning, support of diversity and inclusion, community engagement, and program innovation,” said Berry Interim Provost David Slade.
The Charter School houses pre-professional and professional programs in psychology, teacher education, nursing and kinesiology; a graduate program in curriculum and instruction; a graduate program in educational leadership; and minors in applied behavior analysis, family studies, strength and conditioning and teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL).
