Two surgeons from Poland and Ukraine will speak on medicine and life in Eastern Europe and what it's like to live and work in a war zone at the Berry College International Health Care Symposium on Sept. 25.
The symposium is at 7 p.m. at Berry's Krannert Center and is open to the public. As guests of the Georgia Orthopedic Society, Pryzemysław Lubiatowski, MD, PhD, from Poland, and Oleksandr Strafun, MD, PhD, from Ukraine will also tour Atrium Health Floyd, Harbin Clinic and Berry during their stay.
"Dr. Lubiatowski will provide insight into changes in medicine and life in Eastern Europe after the fall of communism. Dr. Strafun will share a powerful perspective of what it’s like to live and work in a war zone as a trauma surgeon. We hope attendees find the academic presentations informative and enlightening and their personal stories inspiring,” said Dr. Brad Bushnell, Harbin Clinic orthopedic surgeon and president of the Georgia Orthopedic Society. Bushnell is also a Berry Trustee.
Lubiatowski is the Medical Director of the Rehasport Clinic in Poznań, Poland, where he specializes in surgery of the upper extremity. He is also the head of the Traumatology and Sports Biomechanics Laboratory at Poznań University of Medical Sciences. Strafun is a senior researcher in the Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, where he specializes in Microsurgery and Reconstructive Surgery.
