Nursing graduate Kayla Sangrey found her passion for health care while successfully balancing her career as a collegiate athlete at Berry.
Kayla was a member of the softball team throughout her four-year college career. She had the opportunity to serve as a scouting supervisor under Coach Cori Thiermann, and researched stats on opposing teams during the seasons.
“Berry has allowed me to pour [myself] into my academics and athletics while maintaining a healthy balance between the two, and this comes with the support of the nursing department, athletic department, my coaches and administrative staff,” Kayla says.
Obtaining a nursing degree offered its own set of challenges, but Kayla scored a home run with her academics. She held a standing position on the Dean’s List each semester, made the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Academic Honor Roll and was a part of the NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team.
“Without the opportunities Berry has granted me, I would not be able to be a collegiate athlete competing at the national level while also obtaining a prestigious degree in a rigorous program,” Kayla says.
“I can confidently say that despite the many challenges thrown my way, Berry has allowed me to grow into the individual I am today, and has allowed me to pour [myself] into other people while pursuing my calling of serving people in the health-care world.” Kayla will attend Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee this August to pursue a Master of Science degree in nursing to eventually work as a family nurse practitioner.
