Daniel Alligood changed his path while at Berry, but has returned to the Rome community in pursuit of his dream to earn a medical degree.
Daniel came to Berry on the pre-med track, but with the support and guidance of his professors he graduated from in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Biochemistry.
“Because of Berry’s passionate and caring professors, I became a desirable and unique candidate for programs, scholarships, and research opportunities,” Daniel explained.
Assistant Professor of Chemistry Mark Turlington and former Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science Zahava Wilstein greatly influenced Daniel’s development both as a scholar and a person, mentoring him and encouraging him to push his education further.
While at Berry, he received an honorable mention for the Prestigious Barry Goldwater Scholarship, and completed medicinal chemistry and mathematic projects. He also served as the captain of the men’s varsity tennis team and co-president of Allied Health, and was the student supervisor of Outdoor Recreation.
Daniel continues to excel in his postgraduate career. During the summer of 2018, he completed a National Institute of Health funded internship in cerebrovascular hemodynamics at Harvard University. After spending the last two years at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) in Augusta, Georgia, Daniel recently rejoined the Rome Community to spend his third year studying at MCG’s Northwest Campus and working at local hospitals.
