Oak Hill Home and Gardens
The Oak Hill home, built in the 1880s is the Greek Revival mansion of Martha Berry, founder of Berry College. Oak Hill was the childhood home of Martha Berry and later became her adult residence, altered to her taste. Oak Hill was gifted by Martha Berry to the schools and remains intact as she left it in the 1930s.
The gardens were added in the 1930s as part of Martha Berry’s renovation of the estate. The landscape architect, Robert Cridland, contributed his talents to the school and the result is a collection of gardens and trails that range from our intimate “Goldfish Garden” to the grand “Sunken Garden.” You can access these gardens with general admission.
The Martha Berry Museum
The Martha Berry Museum opened in 1972 on the Oak Hill Estate as a complement to the home and as a place to further tell the story of the Berry Schools. The museum has multiple galleries exhibiting the Permanent Collection and Special Exhibitions
Oak Hill's current special exhibition "The Gift of Art: Selections from Notable Berry Donors." This student curated exhibition showcases artwork from the museum's permanent collection ranging from 15th century furnishings to 20th century American Impressionist paintings. Find out more.
