Bryce Speed Art Exhibit Opens

A solo art exhibit, “Gulfs” by Bryce Speed, opens Monday (Jan. 9) in the Moon Gallery at Berry College and will run through Feb. 2.

“Gulfs” consists of framed works on paper that combine painting and drawing to create a “floating dreamscape world”. In this world, Speed depicts calamities as natural forces like water, wind and fire that threaten built environments using subdue colors and overlapping forms. This heightens the theme of ambiguity and instability in the work.

In 2016 alone, Speed’s work was selected for three juried exhibitions in Scotland, North Carolina and Alabama as well as a two-person show at the Gadsden Museum of Art in Alabama and a solo exhibit at TEN Gallery in New Orleans. He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting and drawing from the University of Mississippi and a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting and drawing from the University of Alabama where he is currently an assistant professor of art in painting.

Speed will give an artist talk at 5 p.m. on Jan. 23. The exhibit and talk is free and open to the public. For information about Berry College's art program: http://berry.edu/academics/humanities/finearts/art/
