Berry College sophomore Leif Atchley will compete in the 2017 National Trumpet Competition this weekend.
The National Trumpet Competition is the largest instrument competition in the world consisting of several divisions including high school, undergraduate, graduate, trumpet ensembles and jazz.
Atchley, from Chickamauga, Ga., is the first Berry student to make it this far in the competition and was selected among several hundred video submissions. He is one of 40 soloists who will compete March 23-25 in the live rounds at Metropolitan State University in Denver.
Three contestants selected from the semi-finals will go on to the finals where they will compete for prize money.
Atchley also competed at the national level as a senior in high school.
“I owe my success to the fantastic faculty, facilities and opportunities I am graciously afforded here on campus as well as the amazing Berry community that is a constant source of love and support,” he said. “I am very proud and honored to be representing Berry on this national level.”
