Berry College students took home awards and scholarships at the recent Region IV Kennedy Center – American College Theater Festival.
“Our entire faculty is very proud of all the students who represented Berry at the festival,” said Assistant Professor of Theatre Anna Filippo. “For a small college like Berry to compete with much bigger Southeastern colleges and universities with BFA programs, our students did well to be selected to attend the festival, and then to place is outstanding.”
Freshman Katie Cooley of Dallas, Ga., advanced to the semi-finals in the Region IV Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship Auditions. Senior Ashley Rutkowski of Woodstock, Ga., received second place in the Southeastern Theatre Conference Technical Design/Crafts competition. Rutkowski brought her 1930s tailored suit which was produced in her Advanced Design class. And junior Monty Wilson of Ocala, Fla., received second place in the David Weiss/Southeastern Theatre Conference Regional Scenic Design Competition. Wilson’s scenic design for “Miss Julie” was produced for the Advanced Design class.
Junior Candace Shirley of Albany, Ga., competed in ASPIRE KCACTF/LORT Leadership Initiative and was a finalist for the region's Stage Management Fellowship. Clinical Assistant Professor of Theatre Seamus Bourne received an award for excellence and service as Stage Management Coordinator for Region IV.
