ROME, Ga. - Award-winning poet Adrian Matejka will give a poetry reading at 7:30 p.m. on April 8 at the Berry College Chapel.
Matejka is a major contemporary American poet and was a finalist for both the National Book Award as well as a Pulitzer Prize. He teaches at Indiana University in Bloomington and serves as a Poet Laureate of Indiana. Some of his other honors include the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Award, the Julia Peterkin Award and a Simon Fellowship from the United States Artists.
The reading will also feature two Berry student poets including psychology and creative writing major Avery James (Conyers, Ga.) and senior creative writing major Kathleen Minor (Dalton, Ga.). Both students will be reading a couple of their own poems to open the event.
Following the reading, Matejka will answer questions from the audience along with a book signing. His most recent book, “Map to the Stars” navigates the tensions between race, geography and poverty in America during the Reagan Era.
This event is part of the Creative Writing Reading Series sponsored by the Department of English, Rhetoric and Writing. It is free and open to the public.
